Currently, the State Key Lab
of Hi-performance Server and Storage Technology of Inspur
Group formally opened its first batch of subjects, to
cooperate with domestic and overseas strengths on many
subjects of hi-performance server and storage technology,
and enhance the quick development of labs research. This is
the first time for the first batch of state key labs
formally approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology
to release its subjects, signifying that China research on
hi-performance and storage technology has entered into a new
stage.
In the year of 2008, the lab
attached great important to fundamental research, opening 15
subjects facing four research directions including
high-performance server and storage system structure, design
technology, evaluation and test and software system
technology, for details, refer to the following table. As of
today, any qualified domestic and overseas research
institutes and technicians can apply for related subjects to
the lab before 24th October. After passing the review, you
can research in the lab platform, and obtain corresponding
fund.

According to Wang Endong, the
director of the lab and senior view president of Inspur
Group, releasing open subject aims at enhancing academic
exchange and cooperation in server and storage domain,
promoting China capability in application basic research and
core technology development in information domain. The
profound development of technology innovation of industry,
academy and research is of great exploring significance to
promote product and technology innovation, found core
competition in the high-end key application domain.
High-performance server and
storage technology is crucial to China information
independence even political and economic security, and core
of information of government, national defense, finance,
telecommunication and energy. However, foreign server
manufacturers have occupied the monopolizing position in
technology and market. Therefore, China has placed the
development of high-performance computing industry to a high
position of overall superiority and strategy during the
period of the 11th Five-year. The high-performance server
and storage technology lab undertaken by Inspur is just a
corporate and research institute of high-performance
computer domain supported by China and one of important
measures to enhance national server industrial core
competitiveness.
In July, 2007, the State Key
Lab of Hi-performance Server and Storage Technology settled
in Inspur Group is the only state key lab established in the
corporation in computer domain, mainly researching on
multi-core over 8-route high-performance server system
structure, high dominant frequency and low-power
high-performance service design technology and new-type mass
storage system. The lab releases open subjects once each
year to domestic and overseas universities, corporation and
research institutes of the related research domain,
establishing special open fund, to subsidize researchers for
their work relying on the lab.
It is understood, the
construction period of the lab is two years and Inspur Group
plans to invest RMB 80 million to provide all-around support
for lab hardware construction in personnel, supporting
facilities and post-conditions. In addition, related
governmental institutions have also provided assistance in
policy and fund in the state medium and long term
development planning, 863 plan and various state scientific
plan to the lab, to enhance technical breakthrough in
application foundation, key technologies and common
technology and cultivate technicians in related domains. |
